My mom said just yesterday that it feels exactly like it did before the crash in the market in 2008.

The part about a $120 drink is correct. Even if you could afford it why would you pay 7K a month for a townhome?

I think it's social engineering with theft at its core. We let them do this. WE can stop them.

Rates were a lot higher in the 70s, this isn't new. What is new is people's ability to openly complain about everything online for everyone to see.

Interest rates are returning to normal. The problem is how much everything else cost. , how are dollar is worth way less and it’s funny how Americans don’t fight the government on it. They just cry and complain online like this guy form coalition do something quit bitching.

In my area median house is $670,000 and in a lot of neighborhoods that would buy a fixer upper at best. In my neighborhood there isn’t a house under $900k (we bought in 2019 for $420k). The avg time to sale is still only 19 days at 95% of asking. I don’t know what these people do to be able to afford that.

I'm glad I brought my house and I'm paying it off fast enough that I pay it off in under 7 years

The question is, is rent just going to go up since demand for rent will go up now?
@hubert6843 · October 17, 2026 at 7:55 pm
My first mortgage was 14% back in 1998, 7% is not that bad. My parents paid 12% back in 1980. It's amazing how people think 7% is high.
@markelltaylor8972 · October 17, 2026 at 7:55 pm
No, it’s gonna be the people that have the money are gonna do it to rent them out
@ESund-k3r · October 17, 2026 at 7:55 pm
Everyone I know has given up on houses. What is happening is Boomers are trading houses between them with the equity they have. Everyone else is locked out.
@brendamorrissette6359 · October 17, 2026 at 7:55 pm
We paid 14% interest for our first house in 1974. The house was $24,500.

Mortgage rates are no where near what they were in the early 1980s. In 1983, 13.5% was normal. I paid 11.5% VA!
@vernmiller3584 · October 17, 2026 at 7:55 pm
In 1982, mortgage rate was 18%.

When corporations buy 31% of housing, how do we compete?
