Steps:
1. Pay off all debt first
2. Get a 15 year loan
3. Don't spend over 25% of the houses income on the mortgage
4. Find a starter home, not the average home in your area
5. Pay it off
6. Buy a new better house with a 20% down payment
7. Rent out the first house
8. Repeate

@jesse8737 · October 24, 2026 at 6:26 pm

Step 1 – don’t do it

@iseepandas1 · October 24, 2026 at 6:26 pm

Step #1 is bring born in a boring city so that you can afford your first home..

@gunfighterdrummer · October 24, 2026 at 6:26 pm

Have you guys ever taken an inspector to make sure the house is actually worth the listed price?

@LanKha-w2r · October 24, 2026 at 6:26 pm

So hard buy new home in uk 😮

@CynNiki · October 24, 2026 at 6:26 pm

absolutely correct…get a good realtor that listens to you, is honest with you, and builds trust. mine held my hand throughout the process. if you have family you trust, ask them, but don't use them

Would-be first time homebuyer here. We made it all the way through 7 and then it fell through because our lender (a small local bank, big mistake) failed us back in step 1 and the numbers we got for what we would need and what we could afford were screwed up. Ended up making the devastating and difficult decision to pull the plug because we would’ve been left completely house poor. They declined our loan, the house fell through, our deposit is on the way back to us. All that money spent on inspection and appraisal gone forever, though.

Feels like we won the lottery and then lost the ticket on the train. Grains of sand just slipping through our fingers. An awful feeling and we’re still grieving the loss of the house. The lesson learned is trust no one and do your own research and due diligence. Get everything in writing. Be 110% sure before you move forward.

@Hi-qh8zt · October 24, 2026 at 6:26 pm

If people don’t have any money for down payment, earnest money, inspection, closing cost. They have no business buying a home plain and simple. owning a home is a privilege you save up for and you do smart moves for in your life not a right. Having a roof of your head in this country is not a right it’s a privilege.

@yanncatt · October 24, 2026 at 6:26 pm

Why does the inspection happen after a lot of the work is done?

@ForresterGroupRE · October 24, 2026 at 6:26 pm

💯 true

@wolflord6073 · October 24, 2026 at 6:26 pm

@TheVelocityTeamCNC · October 24, 2026 at 6:26 pm

@nickdiaz_ · October 24, 2026 at 6:26 pm

How is it that a house gets inspected and appraised but its already on the market at a listed price- what is the list price representing if not what the house has been APPRAISED to be worth? For What other product does the buyer need to have something appraised for value see when the thing they're buying already has a price…what?

@TaylorSteinwandel · October 24, 2026 at 6:26 pm

I’m looking at a mobile home right now, would all the same stuff apply? And how do I get like an agent so I just look up realtors?

@noelmilleryoga5993 · October 24, 2026 at 6:26 pm

Wow this is oversimplified. It is the largest purchase anyone will likely ever make in their life, I don’t think referencing it in this cavalier way is responsible. Also step one is saving the down payment which may take you 3-6 years. Start there. You could also save the entire purchase amount. That is also an option, which many people do but the mortgage is so much more popular.

@OhPeachy · October 24, 2026 at 6:26 pm

I’m a 1st time home buyer and my brother told me exactly what you just described
